Homework
Schedule:
First Graders will be going to the computer lab and library once
a week. They will be attending Physical Education (P.E.) on Mondays and Wednesdays, Art on Tuesdays and Fridays,
Music on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Spanish every day.
Please click on Classroom Schedule and Specials Schedule
for details about your child's schedule.

Subject Areas:
Please read about each subject area that your child will be enriched by this year. You may do so by reading the Syllabus
which corresponds to each subject area. Each Syllabus includes
a description of the subject area, an outline of the school year (scope and sequence), themes, objectives, assessment and lots more! You may also read the Year-At-A-Glance, found at the Parents' Corner, which contains only the themes for each
subject area, all in one document. Adobe Acrobat Reader is
required to view and print these docuemnts.

Clothing:
The school uniform is mandatory. Children must wear
the uniform to school every day: School shirt, khaki pants,
short or skirt (not a mini) and please don't forget to send
your child in khaki shorts and sneakers on P.E. days.  For
more information, please refer to your parent/student
handbook, contact me or the office.

Label:
Please label your child's personal items with his/her first
and last name. Many children have similar and even identical belongings including lunch boxes, book bags, and sweaters.

Snack:
Your child must bring a small healthy snack and drink
to school, from home, everyday. Snack time is very short and
if your child needs to go and buy a snack at the cafeteria,
he/she will not have much time to enjoy their snack. We have snack from 9:50 to 10:05. It would be greatly appreciated if
you did not send candy, soda, or anything in glass containers.
Here are some healthy snack examples: yogurt, fruit, ham and cheese, sandwiches, pretzels, etc. However small, snack is
very important to a child, please do not allow your child to
feel left out, watching others eat is no fun! If your child is
allergic to anything, please let me know. Click here for
healthy snack ideas!

Lunch:
For lunch, you may either send a packed lunch or have
your child buy one at school.  If your child will buy lunch at
school, please send the money in a clearly labeled envelope
and we will buy your child lunch tickets or open an account,
please specify, on the envelope, what your choice will be.
If your child is allergic to anything, please let me know.

Birthdays:
Your child's birthday is a special day and we enjoy becoming
part of the celebration. Feel free to send in a treat or
surprise. It would be best to send in a snack that would
be easy for your child to serve, such as cupcakes, cookies,
rice crispy treats, etc. The treat will be served during snack
time. If birthday invitations are to be distributed at school, all children, or all boys/all girls, in the class must receive one. If
this isn't doable, please hand invitations to parents to avoid
hurt feelings, do not send them to school to be distributed. I appreciate your cooperation with this. It is all about the kids!

Notes:
If you are sending a note to me with your child, please place
it in the agenda or in your child's folder.  Please understand
that I cannot, and will not, release a child to anyone other
than a parent unless I have a note from you or a notification
from the office. If you have someone that will pick up your
child on a regular basis, you may write me a note for the
year so that I may release your child to this person at
any time. All others, please send a note on that morning. If
you forget to send a note, or have a change of plans for the
day, please call the office and let them know that someone
other than yourself will be picking up your child. Thank you for
your understanding!

Buses:
Please notify me in writing if your child is to be picked
up at school early or if your child needs to be sent on a
different bus or if he/she will not be riding the bus on a
specific day. Students are sent home on their regular buses
if a note or a call to the office (with plenty of time) is not
received.

Toys / Items from Home:
Please keep all toys, figurines, trading cards and such at
home. We have much to do and learn and there is little need
for these distractions at school. Many times these belongings
are lost, and sometimes there is no time for searching book
bags and cubbies to look for missing items.

Homework:
Students will be getting homework four times a week; please encourage your child to do it at home. Homework is expected
to be brought to school the following day. Please click on homework for more details. Please read our homework policies.

School Work:
On Fridays, you will be receiving your child's corrected spelling
test together with any other test or evaluation that has
been done throughout the week. Please take a look at them,
sign and return them on the next school day. At the end
of each quarter, you will be receiving your child's report
card together with all of your child's home and school work.
The reason for this is that I want you to see all the work
that your child has done throughout the entire quarter at once.
I believe that it is hard to get a global picture of how they are doing academically if you only see little bits. Every piece of
work that comes home should have some indication that I have seen it, stars, happy faces, comments, stickers, stamps, etc.
If there is nothing from me on a piece of work, it means that
I have not seen it and it should be returned to school as soon
as possible. Thank you!

Changes / Additions:
Throughout the school year, I will be keeping you informed
of any changes and/or additions. If you have any questions
or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me at school, or
you can also reach me by placing a note in your child's
folder or by clicking on my e-mail link.

Absences:
Whenever your child is going to be absent for any reason,
please call the office and let us know. We will gladly
collect their work in a folder to be completed upon their
return. It is in your child's best interest to be in school as
much as possible. Please remember that first grade is always
filled with new things each day and many of the lessons are hands-on and cannot be made up at home. Please make sure
your child is at school if at all possible. Please also make sure
that your child is at school on time.

When a child is frequently absent, or regularly being picked
up early and/or coming in late, it disrupts the flow of their
first grade experience. If your child is regularly missing school,
or coming in late, you will most likely hear from the office,
or me, about their school attendance.

Library Books:
Each first grader is allowed and encouraged to check out a
library book on our library day and take it home. They are
due on the following week. If they want more time with a
book, they can just renew it after a week for additional time.
Your child will not be able to check another book out unless
he/she brings their book back.  If your child loses a book,
they will need to reimburse the library for the cost of
the book.

Parent Helpers:
What would we all do without parent helpers? There are many opportunities to be involved in our school and classroom. After school starts, a Room Representative parent will be chosen
(by the PTO). That person will be in charge of scheduling all
parent volunteers. The PTO has a sign-up sheet, please let
me know if you are interested.

Contacting Ms. Anabella:
Please know that open communication between us is essential.
If you have questions, concerns, thoughts or comments please write me a note or give me a call at school. I try to return
phone calls the same day I receive them. If you call me after
3:00 p.m., chances are you will not hear from me until the
following day. Please understand that my evenings are devoted
to my family and personal affairs, I do not take calls at home.
If you have a quick question or comment, feel free to e-mail
me. I try to check my e-mail every evening. You may also send
me a message through my online message form. You will find an
e-mail and an online message button on every page.

Kindly understand that during arrival and dismissal times my
main concern is my students and their well-being. They need
and deserve my undivided attention; therefore I cannot get
into lengthy discussions during those times. I would be more
than happy to schedule a conference if you would like some
time to sit down and talk to me.

If there are other procedures you would like to see here, please e-mail me and let me know what I have left out!
Thank you!
